Please read the following information from our school district nurse, Mrs. Leslie Costal:
March 2020
Dear Columbiana Families,
We are all concerned about prevention and safety related to the Corona-virus Disease 2019, or COVID 19. Columbiana Schools will be in close communication with the County Health Department, as well as following guidance and recommendations from the Ohio Department of Health, and the CDC.
We would like to remind our school community that the best ways to prevent the spread of COVID 19 are the same as preventing colds and flu, and include:
- Washing your hands with soap and water
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
- Covering your mouth or nose with a tissue or upper sleeve when coughing or sneezing
- Avoiding contact with people who are sick
- Staying home if you are sick and contacting your healthcare provider
The symptoms of COVID 19 are fever, cough and shortness of breath. If your student is ill, please keep them home from school and please notify the school of your child’s absence. A student with a heavy cough and cold, vomiting, and/or fever should stay home. A student must be fever free, without fever reducing medication, for 24 hours before returning to school. We encourage parents to seek medical attention from a healthcare provider if your child exhibits symptoms of fever, cough and/or shortness of breath.
Please be assured that we have intensified our cleaning and disinfecting practices throughout all three buildings and will follow all directions provided by public health to prevent and limit the virus.
We will continue to monitor the situation, in partnership with our health experts, and will keep you informed if additional measures need to be taken. Thank you for your help in keeping our school population healthy.
