Re: Pandemic School Closure Plan for Joshua Dixon Date: 3/12/20
As per Ohio’s Governor Mike DeWine, our normal school operations are suspended from March 16, 2020-April 3, 2020 when the status will then be re-evaluated. Columbiana Schools are on a 2-hr. delay tomorrow, March 13, 2020 and will have a waiver day on Monday, March 16, 2020. In order to maintain the integrity of instruction during this school closing, Joshua Dixon will be preparing a hybrid version of remote learning. For example, teachers will be using a form of web-based instruction that families are already familiar with, currently labeled blizzard bags, which are accessible from your child’s teacher’s webpage. Once this web-based learning is complete, every Joshua Dixon Teacher, including specials teachers, will be developing instructional packets (differentiated for IEP students) for each content area of responsibility. These packets will be made available in the Joshua Dixon front entrance Tuesday, March 17th-Thursday, March 19th between 9:00am-2:00pm. Students are to complete the packet, and once we resume normal activity bring the completed instruction packet back to their teacher. This will enable them to have credit for the days and content missed. These packets may include storybooks and workbooks that will also need returned. Teachers will also supply alternate activities for students with limited to no internet access as some packets may include website links.
In order to safeguard the health of students and staff, we have educated all students in practicing good health habits including preventive actions that can help keep people from getting and/or spreading the flu, such as: staying home when you are sick, staying home for at least 24 hours after you no longer have a fever, or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medicines, covering your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, using at least a 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces and objects. Additionally, custodial staff has expanded and will continue their surface/deep cleaning measures and disinfecting practices. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has also developed recommended actions for preventing the spread of the flu: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
