One way to pique a child's interest in a book is to do a "book tasting".  Mrs. Maloney and Mrs. Melchionne set up the classroom to resemble a restaurant, down to the centerpieces and table candles.  Students have a place-setting and an 'offering' of books that are a specific author, genre or series.  After browsing the book for a few minutes, students are asked to document their observations for that particular genre.  This delicious literacy treat increases students' love of reading and allows them to sample a variety of genres and expand their 'palate' for different forms of literature.  Afterwards, students will reflect on a 'napkin'.  Who knew learning could be this much fun!
